Carus Thompson is an interesting Australian singer-songwriter. His new album, titled Creature Of Habit, is a solo effort that visits the landscape of troubled relationships one might expect from any troubadour.
Carus Thompson è un cantautore australiano dotato di buon talento, con alle spalle un interessante percorso artistico cominciato nel 2003 con l’eclettico Songs From Martin St. e proseguito poi con la sua band The True Believers con i dischi Long Nights Are Gone del 2004 e Three Boxes nel 2007. Il suo nuovo album, Creature Of Habit è il suo primo disco come solista e rappresenta la sua produzione più importante, come lui stesso scrive nelle liner notes. Things Of Stone And Wood, il disco presenta dieci brani che si rifanno a tutti gli stilemi tipici del cantautorato folk di dilaniana memoria. Il suo songwriting tuttavia pesca in un immaginario molto personale dove incontriamo storie drammatiche come giovani sbandati (For The Rest Of My Life), momenti tristi pieni di sofferenza dovuti ai fallimenti della vita (Burn) o ancora storie d’amore sognate e poi finite in fretta (Doing Time). Sul finale la qualità del disco cresce moltissimo con l’intensa ballata Your Eyes Is Bleeding e la eccellente Prisoners Of The Rodeo, che si segnala come il brano più riuscito del disco. Accompagna l’album un disco interessante disco dal vivo registrato al Temple Studios in Germania.
