Quintus McCormick came to the Blues later in his youth. Born in Detroit and grown up in Chicago, like many of his European contemporaries, he was fond of progressive rock. At the beginning of the Eighties, he started playing the Blues and never stopped since then. His musical skills made him touring with maestros such as James Cotton, A.C. Reed and Otis Clay. His experience with the latter can give you some hints of where Quintus is heading for, in spite of his Chicagoan background.

Questo è un buon disco di un artista che ha ancora margini di miglioramento: a mezza via tra un sound Malaco e reminescenze di Albert King, Quintus McCormick sembra destinato a far del suo meglio nel campo del Southern Soul possedendo voce vellutata e un chitarrismo espressivo. La presenza di musicisti come Roosevelt Purifoy tende ad alzare la qualità musicale, ma crea anche una certa omogeneità con altri artisti Soul-Blues, una condizione che alla fine nuoce a McCormick, il quale ambirebbe ad una sua originalità, come nella bella canzone d’apertura “Hey Jodie!”. Quintus insiste con “Hot Lovin’ Woman”, “Plano Texas Blues”, “There ain’t no right way to do wrong” ed è là che riesce ad esser più convincente abbandonando l’ardua strada del Chicago Blues per le più comode autostrade del Southern Soul.
