One of the best European pickers works it out live. Delta Blues and Ragtime played with a furious, overwhelming, style.
Matti Norlin is a Swedish gentleman who, in his younger days, traded (or betrayed) his passion for heavy metal rock for “Da” Blues. Subsequently, he spent several years in the South of United States to refine his style and to get totally imbibed by the Blues core spirit. This is the way in which things should be done. Norlin is in command of his finger-picking from the first to the last note, but, as it often happens to those who are technically more than proficient, he tends to exaggerate: his ancient heavy metal soul resurfaces with great strength. As a consequence, Norlin’s Blues seems not breathing, it goes ahead with a sort of anguish, jumping from a gimmick to another, faster and faster. When the atmosphere gets more relaxed, the result is like in “I’ve found another way to live” - not far from excellence. Norlin’s voice matches especially well with his songs: listen to “Biscuits”, which is also gifted by a contagious riff. Ragtimes Piccolo Rag - are played with great authority and confidence. At the end of the day, Norlin’s Blues may lack of finesse, yet this is an outstanding solo performer who possesses great feeling and great attitude. As you will enjoy this Blues 3 Trappor Upp, we hope to check him out live around here.
