Everybody knows this talented slide-guitar player from the Bay area! Roy Rogers, a regular fixture in United States and European Blues festivals, actually started his own career in 1985 after a 4-year leg with John Lee Hooker and his Coast to Coast Blues Band and numerous previous experiences, including a first version of his group, the Delta Rhythm Kings. A dozen of records, often with this group, some other times with distinguished musicians like another Bay area terrific artist, Norton Buffalo. More recently, he recorded with Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek. A versatile and sensitive musician, Rogers will not disappoint his many fans. If you are expecting breathless slide guitar monologues, you will be surprised to discover an artist who drafts original songs like “Calm before the storm”, the moving “River of Tears” and delicate instrumentals like “Rite of passage”. At first glance, you may find some of this record too mellow in comparison to his torrid live performances, but you will ultimately enjoy Rogers’ various musical inspirations.
